Wassim Khawandi, MD, has been appointed Chief Medical Officer for Trios Health, effective immediately. Khawandi is a practicing nephrologist and has served as medical director of Trios Medical Group—the directly employed contingent of the organization’s medical providers—since 2014.
“Dr. Khawandi is a strategic thinker and natural leader who is adept at thoughtfully balancing the interests of medical providers with organizational goals and requirements,” said Craig Cudworth, Chief Restructuring Officer and Interim CEO. “In this new executive role, Dr. Khawandi will be integral to overseeing the physician side of the restructuring and refocusing effort underway at Trios Health, for both the Medical Group and the broader medical staff with privileges to practice in our facilities.”
Dr. Khawandi attended medical school at American University of Beirut Medical Center in Beirut, Lebanon. He completed an internship and residency training at Indiana University in Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as a fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He is board certified in nephrology. Dr. Khawandi also holds an MBA in healthcare from George Washington University School of Business in Washington DC.
