First graduates of Trios Health residency programs pass board exams
Kennewick, Wash. – All three graduates from the first class of medical residents trained at Trios Health have passed their board certification exams on first attempt. Drs. Maria Persianinova, Minh-Triet Vo, and Shahla Walizada completed their three-year residency programs in family medicine and internal medicine, graduating in June 2016.

Trios Health established the Tri-Cities area’s first residency programs in 2013. Drs. Persianinova, Vo, and Walizada were the first physicians to complete their post-graduate training locally, and the first to receive post-residency board certification.

“We are extremely proud of this accomplishment by our first residency program graduates,” said Dr. Heather Phipps, director of Medical Education for Trios Health. “For them, it signals that they learned all they were supposed to learn on their long journeys to becoming physicians. For us, it means our residency programs are meeting their objective to appropriately prepare new physicians for independent practice.”

Dr. Persianinova graduated from Trios Health’s internal medicine residency program. She is a hospitalist in Sacramento, California. Dr. Vo and Dr. Walizada both graduated from the family medicine residency program and are practicing in outpatient primary care clinics in Lakewood, Washington and Boise, Idaho, respectively.

Five resident physicians graduated from the Trios residency programs this year—one of whom will be staying on with Trios Health full time as a hospitalist—and 22 more are currently in the first, second, or third year of their programs.
