Type 1 diabetes day camp for kids open for registration

The Trios Diabetes Education Department and Trios Foundation have opened registration for a summer day camp for up to 75 children diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. In its sixth year, Camp Trios is scheduled for July 25-27 from 8:30am to 4:30pm and is open to children ages 6 to 14 who have been diagnosed with the disease. The camp will be held primarily at the Southridge Sports Complex; camp participants will be transported to Tri-Cities Court Club for additional activities.

The goal of Camp Trios is to teach participants about their diagnosis and provide them tools for managing it in a way that doesn’t limit their day-to-day life. Important features of the event include a range of engaging and recreational activities as well as relationship building with peers in similar situations and close interaction with mentors and volunteers who can relate to their experiences and offer advice.

Mentorship positions are available for teens (ages 15-18) with Type 1 diabetes who wish to provide leadership, role modeling, and support to the younger campers as well as oversee camp activities.

Camp Trios registration is $65 per child. Scholarships are available for those demonstrating need.

For more information about camp or mentorship, or to receive an application, contact Sharon Edgar (509-221-5442 or or visit Registration closes June 30.

Camp Trios is supported by dozens of local philanthropists and generous businesses who donate the $30,000 necessary to run the Camp. Sponsorship opportunities are available; for more information contact Mandy Wallner in the Trios Foundation office at 509-221-5776.
